The Alchemist

SARA'S SIGNATURE COACHING PROGRAMS

CAREER CHANGE ALCHEMY

One of my signature programs, open to cis and trans women and inspired by the book “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho, consists of 10 sessions to be used within 6 months’ time. The first two sessions will be conducted by video, with the option of using either video or phone for the remainder. Through the program, you’ll embark on an journey of personal discovery and professional transformation, and identify what you would genuinely love to do with your life by exploring a few career paths firsthand. We’ll get together every two weeks and process what you’re learning, break through any real or perceived obstacles, get clear on which fields are a fit and which are not, and make a concrete plan for your next steps. Download a PDF with more details and program outline.

HOW IS "THE ALCHEMIST" BOOK INVOLVED?

As everyone who changes their life in significant ways naturally does, the main character in "The Alchemist", Santiago, deals with all of my Seven Cs of Successful Career Change—Commitment, Curiosity, Clarity, Courage, Communication, Community and Collaboration. Thus, it's the perfect tool for inspiration and for helping you understand what the experience of deciding to go after something exciting and life-changing (but daunting and uncertain) looks like when someone else is doing it!

With that in mind, you'll purchase and read (or reread) the book, reflect on its themes and how they relate to your own path using worksheets I've created, and, throughout our time together, reference metaphors from the parable for reminders and encouragement on your career change journey. While the majority of the program will be about you and your personal experience, the book will serve as a starting point and anchor.

REQUIREMENTS

For this program, you'll need to be willing and able to:

  • Meet by Zoom (or sometimes phone) roughly once every other Tuesday or Wednesday evening

  • Show up consistently

  • Seek—and heed—advice from the signs and symbols the universe places on your path (I can help!)

  • Step outside of familiar environments & usual social circles

  • Try a variety of new things with a beginner mindset

  • Set aside at least 5 hours a week to focus on career change

  • Take concrete action steps between sessions

CAREER CHANGE PATHWAYS

This experiential nature coaching program, open to able-bodied, fully vaccinated cis and trans women, consists of 7 two-mile outdoor Walk & Talk coaching sessions on a gentle path in a forested park, plus 3 sessions by video. Along the way, you’ll embark on an journey of personal discovery and professional transformation, and identify what you would genuinely love to do for work by exploring a few career paths firsthand, between walks. Then, we’ll stroll together, rain or shine, every other Friday afternoon, and process what you’re learning, break through any real or perceived obstacles, get clear on which fields are a fit and which are not, and make a concrete plan for your next steps. Download a PDF with more details and program outline.

WHAT DO WALK & TALKS INVOLVE?

A little bit of meditation, a whole lot of turning to Mother Nature to light your way through sending you signs and symbols on our walks, and me as your guide to observe, interpret, process with, as well as get feedback and information from. When you enroll, you'll also receive a free, waterproof field journal to take notes in. At the end of each walk, you'll decide what steps you're going to take between sessions, depending on what you take away from our time together.

WHY WALK—AND WHY OUTDOORS?

The International Coaching Federation's website says it best: "Experiential coaching while walking outdoors has benefits, including improved creativity, increased productivity, stress reduction, mental clarity and appreciation of different perspectives.... More blood and oxygen circulate to the brain, new connections are formed between brain cells, and the hippocampus (the center for emotion, memory and autonomic nervous system volume) grows. In a nutshell, walking and talking in the outdoors improves cognitive function."

And as Liz Dean says in "Nature's Hidden Oracles," "When you are peaceful and connected to the natural world, you feel at one with yourself and can intuit whatever guidance you need."

REQUIREMENTS

For this program, you'll need to be willing and able to:

  • Meet up on the north end of Seattle every other Friday afternoon

  • Show up consistently, rain or shine (I'll give you a clothing list!)

  • Go unmasked in a city park

  • Walk two miles on uneven, dirt paths

  • Seek—and heed—advice from the signs and symbols nature places on your path (I can help!)

  • Step outside of familiar environments & usual social circles

  • Try a variety of new things with a beginner mindset

  • Set aside at least 5 hours a week to focus on career change

  • Take concrete action steps between sessions
